Guidelines for Reviewer

Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the scientific quality, integrity, and credibility of articles published in the Jurnal Ilmiah Teknologi Informasi dan Robotika (JIFTI). Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, timely, and confidential evaluations of manuscripts assigned to them.

A. Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to:

  1. Evaluate manuscripts objectively based on their scientific quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, clarity, and contribution to the field.
  2. Provide constructive comments that can help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.
  3. Complete the review within the period specified by the editorial team.
  4. Inform the Editor as soon as possible if they are unable to complete the review within the requested time.
  5. Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and all information related to the peer-review process.
  6. Immediately inform the Editor of any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate citation practices, ethical concerns, or other potential research misconduct.

B. Confidentiality

Manuscripts submitted for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, distribute, reproduce, discuss, or use any part of the manuscript for personal, academic, commercial, or other purposes before publication.

Information, ideas, data, methods, results, or other unpublished materials obtained through the peer-review process must not be used for the reviewer's own benefit or the benefit of any other party.

C. Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that may affect their ability to provide an independent and objective review.

Potential conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Recent or ongoing research collaboration with the authors.
  2. Institutional, professional, personal, or financial relationships with the authors.
  3. Direct competition or other circumstances that may reasonably influence the reviewer's judgment.

If a reviewer considers that a conflict of interest may compromise the review process, the reviewer should decline the review invitation and inform the Editor.

D. Aspects to be Evaluated

Reviewers should consider the following aspects when evaluating a manuscript:

  1. Relevance to the Journal Scope — whether the manuscript is consistent with the focus and scope of JIFTI.
  2. Originality and Contribution — whether the manuscript presents a clear scientific, technical, or practical contribution.
  3. Research Problem and Objectives — whether the research problem, motivation, objectives, and contribution are clearly stated.
  4. Literature and State of the Art — whether relevant previous studies are appropriately discussed and the research gap is sufficiently established.
  5. Methodology — whether the research design, methods, dataset, implementation, experimental procedures, parameters, and evaluation methods are appropriate and sufficiently described.
  6. Results — whether the results are clearly presented and adequately support the conclusions.
  7. Discussion — whether the findings are appropriately interpreted and compared with relevant previous studies or baseline methods where applicable.
  8. Conclusion — whether the conclusions are supported by the results and consistent with the stated research objectives.
  9. Tables and Figures — whether tables and figures are relevant, clear, readable, and appropriately referenced in the manuscript.
  10. References — whether references are relevant, sufficiently current, properly cited, and consistent with JIFTI requirements.
  11. Writing Quality — whether the manuscript is presented clearly, logically, and consistently using appropriate academic and technical language.

E. Reviewer Comments

Reviewer comments should be clear, specific, respectful, and focused on improving the scientific quality of the manuscript.

Reviewers should avoid personal comments, offensive language, unsupported statements, or recommendations that are unrelated to the scientific merit of the manuscript.

When identifying weaknesses, reviewers are encouraged to explain the reason for the concern and, where appropriate, provide constructive suggestions for improvement.

F. Review Recommendation

After completing the evaluation, reviewers should provide a recommendation through the JIFTI online submission system. The final editorial decision remains the responsibility of the Editor.

Depending on the result of the evaluation, the reviewer may recommend:

  1. Accept Submission.
  2. Revisions Required.
  3. Resubmit for Review.
  4. Decline Submission.

A review recommendation should be consistent with the comments and evaluation provided by the reviewer.

G. Research Integrity and Ethical Concerns

Reviewers should notify the Editor if they identify or reasonably suspect plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, fabricated or falsified data, inappropriate manipulation of results, unethical research practices, undisclosed conflicts of interest, citation manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct.

Reviewers should not independently contact authors regarding suspected misconduct. Such concerns should be communicated confidentially to the Editor for further assessment according to the journal's publication ethics policy.

H. Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies by Reviewers

Manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, supplementary materials, review reports, editorial correspondence, and other confidential information obtained through the JIFTI peer-review process must not be uploaded to publicly accessible generative AI or AI-assisted services for manuscript evaluation, summarization, analysis, or preparation of peer-review reports.

This restriction is intended to protect manuscript confidentiality, author privacy, intellectual property, unpublished research data, and the integrity of the peer-review process.

Reviewers remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, reasoning, judgment, and recommendations contained in their review reports. The use of AI tools must not replace the reviewer's own scientific expertise, critical assessment, and professional judgment.

Basic tools used solely for spelling, grammar, or language correction may be used provided that confidential manuscript content is not transmitted to services that may store, reuse, disclose, or process the information beyond the reviewer's control.

If JIFTI introduces a secure and institutionally approved AI-assisted review tool in the future, its use may be governed by additional editorial instructions.

I. Review Timeliness

Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluations within the review period specified by the editorial team. If additional time is required, reviewers should contact the Editor as early as possible.

Timely review is important to ensure an efficient, fair, and responsible editorial process for authors and the journal.
